Compliance

Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing poses a grave threat to the sustainability of fisheries in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. WIOMSA is implementing a project on IUU fisheries with funding from the Blue Nature Alliance to improve compliance, elevate the management effectiveness of MPAs and LMMAs, as well as to improve local livelihoods and community fisheries through biodiversity protection.
