The 2023 WIOMSA Annual Report, commemorating 30 years of significant contributions to marine science and conservation in the region has been published. The report highlights key achievements and partnerships; showcasing 12 influential research publications and the indexing of the Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science in Scopus. Through capacity-building efforts, WIOMSA trained over 40 practitioners in protected area management and celebrated 15 years of the Western Indian Ocean Certification of Marine Protected Area Professionals (WIO-COMPAS) certification programme.
