Through the NSF funded ‘DIPnet’ (Diversity of the Indo-Pacific Network: a collaborative research network and database for advancing marine biodiversity research; http://diversityindopacific.net/) we will be hosting a five day intensive workshop at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. The workshop is aimed at African scientists that are actively engaged in the use of molecular tools (genetics/genomics) for understanding the evolution, phylogeography and conservation of marine ecosystems in Africa. The course will cover GIS skills, an introduction to Linux and R, NGS pipelines and programmes for SNP discovery and environmental association analyses, as well as an introduction to conservation planning software. A full programme will be circulated closer to the workshop date.
Requirements: please note that this course can only accommodate scientists working in Africa and on African ecosystems and is aimed at students, as well as early to mid-career scientists and researchers.
Dates: 26th to the 30th June 2017 at the Department of Botany and Zoology, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa (arriving 25th and leaving 1st July)
Course fees: there are no fees to attend the course. The cost for accommodation and meals is covered by DIPnet; travel can also be covered for some participants.
Space is limited. If interested in attending, please contact the course organisers, Dr. Michelle R. Gaither (indopacificgenetics@gmail.com) and Prof. Sophie von der Heyden (svdh@sun.ac.za), with a brief outline of your background including research expertise/interest, as well as details regarding the types of molecular approaches used in your research by March 1st and please include “DIPnet workshop 2017_applicant” in the subject.
Great opportunity to sharing of scientific information or ideas or observations or experiences and networking among experts and young emerging scientist strongly touches me..hence I am joining this training workshop.
