Description of the Project:

The  first learning exchange workshop  for the WIOMPAN Network was held in November 2023 in Dar es Salaam. This landmark event, supported by the Nairobi Convention, the Minderoo Foundation, the Blue Nature Alliance (BNA), (WIOMSA), the VARUNA Biodiversity Programme, the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), brought together over 80 participants representing ten Nairobi Convention countries, creating a dynamic platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The overall purpose of the workshop was to allow MPA managers and stakeholders to pool and share information, expertise and

experiences and take stock of best practices and approaches to enhance and

assess MPA performance to achieve conservation outcomes. The workshop is part of the regional Capacity Building strategy developed by WIOMSA and WIOMPAN to enhance the management of MPAs in the WIO.
