| Description of the Project: | The Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development Programme was jointly run by NIRAS and WIOMSA with the latter organising phase 4 of the programme. The ISCD course ran from 2012-2015 and involved 160 participants. Each training lasted 15 months in 4 phases that include 3 weeks of training in Sweden and a 2 week course in Tanzania. The long term objective of the programme is to contribute to the integrated sustainable development of coastal zones (lakes and sea coast) in which the needs and rights of poor people are taken into account. This is achieved through supporting processes of change in key organisations working with planning and management of coastal zones. It is expected that at the end of the programme each participant shall have an increased understanding of the importance and benefits of an integrated approach for socioeconomic development. |
