Description of the Project:

A Regional Training Workshop on “Identification of Zooplankton and Fish Larvae of the Western Indian Ocean” was held from 24th February to 2nd March 2019 at the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) at Zanzibar, Tanzania. The workshop was hosted by IMS in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway and the EAF-Nansen Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); as well as the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA): Oceans & Coasts, South Africa and Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) and funded by WIOMSA through the MASMA Programme. The course targeted 20 participants representing as many WIO countries and institutions as possible, with priority to be given to those with existing samples to analyze, particularly from recent surveys in the WIO conducted by the RV Dr Fridtjof Nansen and the SA Agulhas II, in support of the 2nd International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2).
