South Africa has taken over as chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, as of October 2017, with the theme: “IORA – uniting the peoples of Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East through enhanced cooperation for peace, stability and sustainable development”.
Through this platform, South Africa has established a local chapter of the Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group (SA IORAG). This special session will showcase the work undertaken by the academics in the SA IORAG, as well as other IORA African countries. It will also provide an opportunity for engagement by symposium delegates with the IORA African academic focal points in the interest of fostering greater academic collaboration in the region.
