Samatar Ahmed is a Technical Advisor for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Somalia. He previously served as a policy advisor for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (now Net Zero, DESNZ) where he focused on industrial decarbonization, resource efficiency, circular economy, onshore renewable wind power and policy implementation in support of the United Kingdom’s Net Zero commitment.
With eight years’ experience working in government, non-governmental organizations and think tanks, Samatar aims to leverage his expertise to mobilize WIOMSA Somalia members and optimize available resources. Through collaboration and innovative strategies, he is committed to advancing sustainable practices and addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing the region. Samatar’s vision is to ensure that Somalia becomes a leader in environmental stewardship, making a significant contribution to the health of marine ecosystems and supporting the livelihoods of communities that depend on them.
