Dr Daniela de Abreu is a senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique. She holds a PhD in Marine Sciences from Gothenburg University, Sweden. Her main research interests include the ecology of coastal habitats, particularly mangroves and seagrasses, as well as marine invertebrate and fish biology and ecology.
Daniela believes in the need for greater institutional and individual engagement, particularly of young Mozambican scientists in the various WIOMSA activities, so as to strengthen the marine science community in Mozambique. Additionally, in collaboration with WIOMSA, she believes steps need to be taken to address the language barrier because Mozambique is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the region.
