Ben Soudjay Moustarchide is a researcher specializing in fisheries and the marine environment at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment in the Comoros. He holds a Master’s degree in Marine Environmental Sciences and Fisheries and a Certificate in Biomanagement of Marine Biodiversity. His research focuses on all aspects of traditional fishing techniques and coral reef disturbance, as well as anthropogenic actions and the degradation of the marine environment in the Comoros. He has devoted a large part of his research to the management and conservation of coastal and marine biodiversity, in particular mangrove restoration, stock assessment, coelacanth conservation, inventories and genetic studies on spiny lobsters and the study of fish farming development in the Comoros.
As a country coordinator for Comoros Ben will ensure greater collaboration between WIOMSA’s various scientific institutions, and the involvement of younger generations in marine protection and sustainable ocean use.
