WIOMSA is a regional non-governmental, non-profit organization, based in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and works in 10 coastal and island states of the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region.

The Association is dedicated to promotion of educational, scientific and technological development of all aspects of marine sciences in the region.

This work is geared towards ensuring the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources through supporting and coordinating research that is aimed at enhancing the scientific knowledge base, influencing management practices and policy decisions, and designing and piloting innovating solutions that address problems facing communities, policy makers, management authorities and the private sector.

WIOMSA is a truly African institution, registered as a not-for-profit charity in Zanzibar and South Africa.

Your support helps bring WIOMSA’s work to life. WIOMSA is proud to receive funding from a diverse array of sources, including donors, membership fees, partnerships and contracts, foundations, private industry, and individual donors. Your support of WIOMSA goes towards the WIOMSA Trust, which supports our research programme and administrative costs.

The Trust was registered as a charitable trust in the Republic of Mauritius in 2012, and receives voluntary donations in support of its objectives.

The Trust aims to provide a reliable and sustainable source of funding to support priority marine and coastal research activities in the WIO and to support WIOMSA’s core activities in order to promote co-operation in the WIO in all aspects of coastal and marine sciences, management and sustainable development.

Donate now and join us as partners in developing innovative science-based solutions to address the challenges that face the management of the marine and coastal environment of the WIO.
