Biography

Stela Fernando has Masters in Aquatic Biology and Coastal ecosystems and degree in Biology, orientation on Ecology and Natural Resource Management at the University Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique in 2011. She is working since 2009 as a researcher at the National Institute of Fisheries Research (IIP), Department of Fisheries assessment whose main work is to monitoring and assessment of intertidal marine invertebrates including evaluation of socio economic importance of intertidal marine invertebrates to provide scientific knowledge, as well as technical assistance in the implementation of projects and supporting communities. Since 2017 she started to work with sharks also, monitoring the fisheries, describing biology, ecology, improve identifications matters in the sector, draw the NPOA for sharks and rays and others. Before she become a research in IIP, She worked as a temporary research assistant at Eduardo Mondlane University in project like TRANSMAP and PUMPSEA.  She is a board member, representing Mozambique since 2018
