Remembering Prof. Kassim Kulindwa

Chair of the MASMA PC. Professor, University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM)

Biography

Prof. Kassim Kulindwa was appointed as the Chair of the MASMA PC, taking over from Prof. Ian Bryceson. Prof. Kulindwa joined the MASMA PC in 2009. He was a professor in the Department of Economics in the University of Dar es Salaam.  He served as Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in the Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric) from 2010 to 2015.

He completed his PhD in Economics from Gothernburg University in 1994. He held two master’s in economics from the University of Dar es Salaam and the University of British Columbia.  His areas of professional interest were in empirical analyses of issues concerning the environment and natural resources including; management and utilisation of water,  energy, wetlands, fisheries, and wildlife. Others are climate change mitigation and adaptation, valuation of environmental goods and services, Non-Timber Forest Products, livelihoods and poverty, Payments for Environmental Services, cost benefit analysis and EIA, all in the context of sustainable development. He supervised MA, MSc and PhD candidates.

He chaired several advisory boards and technical committees.

Profession Kulindwa passed away in January 2023 after an illness.
