Biography

Adiano Macia is an Associate Professor and senior lecturer in Marine Ecology also playing the role of Coordinator of the post-graduation Courses at the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, University Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique. He is a Researcher, with much of his research in Mozambican Coast and the WIO Region. He tackles Marine Ecology on penaeid shrimps/brachyuran, crabs’ mangroves and coastal habitats trophic connectivity issues under the overarching themes of marine fisheries resources management. As an ecologist, has been involved in a variety of local and regional research projects such as interlinkage between marine habitats, macrobenthos of the mangrove areas, investigating knowledge for creation of MPAs, and mangroves as phytoremediators of urban pollution. He has published several scientific articles in different journals.  At present his coordinating a sub-program on Sustainability of Marine and Coastal resources in Mozambique with the objective of creating local research capacity through training at PhDs and Post-docs levels.
